This is a great opportunity for your kids to learn to speak in front of others.  If you child has worked on a report or project or would like to talk about a book they read this is a great opportunity .  All ages and all homeschoolers are welcome.

The cost is $4 this includes skates.  This is open to all homeschoolers.  Please bring a drink and a snack to share.


THEME Homeschool Band

Fall is around the corner, and soon homeschool band will be starting again.  This is a fun and educational time for students.  THEME will begin Monday Sept. 14.  The band meets at Christ the King Lutheran Church in Barboursville(beside Advance Auto Parts and across from K-Mart. 
The cost is $5 per student per band meeting.  (Fees are paid for the month the first band meeting of every month) 

Beginners meet from 3:00 - 4:00
Advanced students meet from 4:00 to 5:00

Beginners needing instruments and books can contact Tim at 304-542-3005, or simply stop by Kerr's Music World (5505 Rt. 60.)  Generally beginners are age 9 are older, but exceptions made for students with previous music experience.  Call Tim.
The band rehearses throughout the year, and preforms a winter and spring concert  in addition to playing at the Homeschool Day at the Capital in Spring.

Tim Appleton Bio

Tim Appleton holds a Bachelor of Music degree in Music Education from Heidelberg University. He also attended the Cleveland Institute of Music. Tim has performed with the Cleveland Opera on Tour, The Akron Lyric Opera Theater and various other community theater productions. His repertoire includes Bizet's Carmen, Mozart's Die Zauberflöte, Così fan tutte, Puccini's Madama Butterfly and Gianni Schicchi, Aaron Copland's The Tenderland, Samuel Adler's The Outcast of Poker Flats, Gilbert and Sullivan's Trial by Jury, and The Mikado. Tim has sung in various musical theatre performances including West Side Story, The Secret Garden, Strike Up The Band, The Music Man, Fliddler on the Roof, Brigadoon, Little Shop of Horrors.

Prior to moving to West Virginia, Tim taught at Southeast Local Schools in Ohio where he taught grades 7-12 vocal music, music theory, show choir director, musical director and was the assistant band director.

Tim lives in the middle of nowhere in Cabell county West Virginia, where his wife, Stephanie homeschools their four children Kellen, Lydia, Nolan and Vivian on their farm, raising rabbits, chickens, ducks, sheep, goats, cattle, horses and best of all...pigs.

Lego League Robotics Team
I am Sean Lewis and we are Homeschool our 4 boys in Barboursville, WV. We are starting a New Lego League Robotics Team.

The name of our Team will be the Robotic Knights. We will be starting our Team Times at the End of January 2010. I am sending this information out now because this is the time to start recruiting those who are seriously interested.

Our Team will consist of 2 Teams:
JR First Lego League (Ages 6-9)
First Lego League (Ages 9-14)

I will be the Coach for the Older Team, FLL, and my wife will be the Coach for the JR FLL. We are hoping to have at least 4 Children per team including our children. We have 3 boys involved.

The Cost:
Our family will be fronting the Cost to get started but we will try to have parent meetings to organize fundraisers for future costs. So for now everything is free.

We plan to have Team Times on Saturdays between 1-4 pm. This allows Team members time for homeschool during the week and Saturday Morning sports. We are willing do change Team times to more accommodate Team member's schedules.

Looks as if we will be meeting in the Barboursville Library for Team Times on Saturdays between 1-4pm starting January 2010.

Testing With WVHEA 2010 

Its time to start registering for Standardized testing.  If you have tested before then you probably have already gotten your order form in the mail.  If you are new to homeschooling or to our area the cost is as follows:

Basic Cost          $35.00

WVHEA
Member              -$10.00

Late Order          +$10.00  after 2-10-2010

If hand scored     +$5.00

Private Testing     +$10.00  This does not include the fee a                                       private tester charges.

February 28, 2010 is the order stop date.  Absolutely no orders will be accepted after this date. 

5-1-2010 Is the first day to arrange for provate testing.  Add $10.00 private tesing, $10.00 late, and $5.00 hand score fees.  You will also have to pay the private tester a fee.

Test Day
Testing has been scheduled for Thursday, March 25, 2009 at Westmoreland Baptist Church, located at 3401 Hughes Street, in Westmoreland area of Huntington. 

You need to be there by 9:00 am we will have a few announcements and then testing will begin promptly at 9:30.  If you are late you will have to arrange for private testing. 

DO NOT BRING A SICK CHILD.

Please bring the following:
*  Two or three sharp pencils with erasers
* Scratch paper
*  Snacks for yourselves and each kid.
*  A watch for kids who feel more comfortable            monitoring the time.
* Books to keep kids who finish early occupied.
* A stamped, self-addressed business envelope        for each kid. 

Other Important points
The children have  been very well behaved and considerate of church property in the past. 
Let them know this is the reason were get invited back.  Please remind all not to run or shout in the building and to be polite to any stranger they might meet inside the church.

Also, please remind your children that test administrators cannot answer questions about the content of the tests(e.g. what does this word mean?)  They can only clarify instructions.  Also if your child finishes a test early they need to sit quietly and read until the other students are done.  Absolutely no electronic toys or games are to played with in the testing rooms.

If you are group testing and you have order a test you will be getting a letter from me in the next week or so. 



Pump Up The Fun

$5 per child; wear socks; bring a drink and snack to share
ALL homeschoolers are welcome!!



Teen Lock-In
Fri/Sat, March 12th /13th - 8pm - 8am
All middle school and high school age homeschoolers are invited to a lock-in at the gym of Lewis Memorial Baptist Church. Bring a drink and snack to share, as well as $3 for pizza.
Parents are welcome to stay; if you’re dropping off, please leave contact information with a chaperoning parent.

I also would like to find somebody that could provide babysitting, for a reasonable fee, for those mothers that have small children and would like to help with testing.  If this would interest you please contact me.
Chick-Fil-A Homeschool Meet and Greet

All homeschoolers are welcome.  Its a great time to come out and socialize with other homeschool families and enjoy their wonderful food.  It is scheduled for Thursday, March 18, 2010 from 6-8 pm at the free standing store on the hill in front of Walmart in Barboursville.
